May 19, 2025 - Angela Salmon, Associate Professor of Early Childhood Education and Fulbright Global Scholar 2024-2026 to Colombia, Greece, and Poland exhibited the collaborative works resulting from her Fulbright project International Children's Voices at a preconference VIP gathering at the Municipal Gallery of Piraeus, Greece. There, she was joined by her Polish and Greek hosts, Greek Fulbright officers, and other Fulbright scholars to probe how this pedagogy bridges generational, cultural and communication gaps to support children's well-being.

February 25, 2025 - Meet Jeanette Smith, JD, Assistant Teaching Professor of Religious Studies, who has been appointed director of FIU COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning). Smith has developed new ways to get students excited and engaged in developing career-ready skills. She uses her courses to collaborate with faculty from Chile and Colombia and have their respective students engage virtually to collaborate in jointly solving problems and master the course content. Through COIL, students gain critical global competencies that are in high demand by employers.
FIU Professor's Recording Made During Fulbright Specialist Visit Earns Latin Grammy Nomination
December 19, 2024 - Jamie Ousley, Professor of Music, Coordinator of Jazz Studies, and Jazz Bassist, earned a Latin Grammy nomination for the album Claude Bolling Goes Latin on which he collaborated during his Fulbright Specialist grant to Costa Rica. For two weeks, he served as a guest lecturer in jazz composition, conducted masterclasses on improvisation and ensemble skills, and worked one-on-one with students, many of whom are already active in the region’s burgeoning jazz scene. One of the highlights of Ousley’s trip was the opportunity to teach and perform with local students. November 18, 2024 - For a 4th consecutive year, the U.S. Department of State recognized FIU as a Fulbright Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) Leader for facilitating out- and inbound exchanges of students and scholars globally during this year's Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) conference. The immersion in a foreign culture and one-on-one teaching, learning and researching at an institution abroad advance our institution's foundational goal of fostering international understanding and world-class talent.
FIU Professor Wins Prize in Global Case Writing Competition
September 23, 2024 - David Wernick, Teaching Professor of International Business, earns 2nd Place in the 2024 Global Case Writing Competition by the William Davidson Institute (WDI). David is the lead author of Sheroes Hangout: Empowering India’s Acid Attack Survivors to Face the Future, a case focused on a social enterprise in India, initiated by grassroots campaign Stop Acid Attacks (SAA). The WDI’s competition promotes academic case studies that highlight businesses with exceptional social impact and/or diverse business leaders. Deeply invested in the cause, the team of authors pledged the prize money of $5,000 to benefit the Sheroes initiative.
