Kansai University (Osaka, Japan) Summer Program

FIU Global is pleased to bring to FIU students' attention the opportunity to apply for a unique summer program offered by our valued partner university in Osaka, Japan, Kansai University (KU): Consider submitting an application for the Global Competence Program: Skills for Future-Ready Talents, a special two-week, tuition-free program in celebration of the 2025 Osaka World Expo!
📅 Program Dates: July 1 – 11, 2025 
📍 Location: Kansai University, Osaka, Japan
This blended mobility program includes three online workshops (in June) followed by two immersive weeks on-site in Japan. Students will:
  • Engage in expert-led workshops on global challenges
  • Explore cultural and historical sites through field visits
  • Experience the Osaka World Expo
  • Visit multiple Kansai University campuses and collaborate with Japanese students
  • Join a diverse international learning community

 

Tuition-free program with scholarships available 
The program, visit to the World Expo, and accommodation are free of charge for students from JIGE-affiliated partner universities (see the list here). Additionally, eligible students will receive a JASSO scholarship of 80,000 yen to support their participation.
Please note that participants are responsible for arranging and covering their own travel expenses to and from Japan, as well as food expenses during the program and the cost of tickets for some optional field visits.

Application criteria
  • JIGE-affiliated partners: Undergraduate and graduate students from the 35 JIGE-affiliated partner universities are eligible to apply (check the list here).
  • Visa and flight expenses: Students are responsible for obtaining the appropriate visa and covering their travel expenses to and from Japan. Kansai University does not provide visa support.
  • Academic requirements and English proficiency: Applicants must be in good academic standing (recommended minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale). The program is conducted entirely in English, with a minimum English proficiency level of CEFR B1. 
  • Application documents: Applicants need to submit the following documents by the application deadline: 1) A recommendation from a member of the university 2) An English Language Proficiency Certification 3) Academic transcript(s) in English 4) A motivation letter 5) A signed Qualification for receiving JASSO scholarship form (see application form for detailed instructions). Students who completed their primary education in English are not required to submit any English proficiency certification.
A total of 40 students will be accepted. If the number of applicants exceeds this limit, IIGE will conduct a selection process.
