Biography

Dr. Lukas K. Danner is Fulbright-NSF Arctic Research Scholar at the Centre for Arctic Studies, Institute of International Affairs, University of Iceland, Faculty Administrator/Associate Director, FIU Global, Office of Regional and World Locations, and Research Associate at the EU-Jean Monnet Center of Excellence, FIU. He is also Research Fellow at the East Asia Security Centre, Bond University, Australia, North Pacific Arctic Fellow at the East-West Center, Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, as well as Fellow at the North American and Arctic Defense and Security Network.

Dr. Danner teaches a range of courses at the Faculty of Political Science, University of Iceland, and the FIU Department of Politics and International Relations in line with his affiliations with the FIU European and Eurasian Studies Program and the FIU Global Indigenous Forum. These include International Relations of Scandinavia and the Arctic, International Political Economy, Politics of Western Europe, International Law, and European Union Politics, among others. Since Spring 2020, he has integrated interdisciplinary COIL experiences into his courses in partnership with Linguistics and Business faculty at University of Antwerpen (Belgium) and Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences (Germany), respectively.

Dr. Danner is the author of China’s Grand Strategy (2018) and co-editor of New Challenges and Opportunities in European-Asian Relations (2021; with Bibek Chand). He has been supported by the European Commission, the U.S. Department of Education, the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science of Iceland, the East-West Center, the Institute for Humane Studies, the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program, and the National Science Foundation.
